Dr. Sharon Gurm is a licensed and board-certified Naturopathic Physician. She obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Cell Biology & Genetics from the University of British Columbia while playing field hockey on the elite UBC varsity team. While still attending university, Dr. Gurm began a 5-year research associate position at the BC Cancer Agency where she and her team investigated a novel and non-invasive method for the early detection of primary and recurrent head and neck cancers. During her time at the BC Cancer Agency, she was mentored by Dr. Joel Epstein DMD, MSD, FRCD(C), FDS RCSE (Oral Pathology & Medicine) and Dr. John Hay (Medical Oncologist). In 2001, Dr. Gurm attended the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM). In 2005, she graduated with her Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine and thereafter completed a Fellowship with the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology (FABNO) to become a Board-Certified Naturopathic Oncologist. In 2006, with a vision to advance the field of medicine to its highest standard, Dr. Gurm founded Port Moody Health – Centre for Integrative Medicine & Cancer Care. She has successfully established a unique model of patient-centered integrative healthcare, with expert physicians and medical staff working collaboratively to provide the best in personalized and comprehensive care in an environment that blends conventional medicine and evidence-informed naturopathic medicine – guided by a whole-person approach that respects the values and beliefs of the individual patient. Dr. Gurm is a part-time clinical professor of the Integrative Oncology Program at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine. As a professional speaker and lecturer on the subject of integrative oncology, she has been a presenter at the Advances in Women's Health Symposium, the Cancer Prevention & Healing Event and the inaugural conference for the Naturopathic Doctors of Alberta. In 2013, Dr. Gurm was also a guest on the Five-To-Thrive radio show, discussing the role of breast density in the development and recurrence of breast cancer. In 2014, Dr. Gurm was a guest on The Survive & Live Well radio show radio show, discussing the clinical application of Oncothermia (Hyperthermia) as a complementary treatment for cancer. In 2016, Dr. Gurm had the privilege of presenting on integrative and collaborative care to the Paediatric Oncology team at the BC Children's Hospital. In 2014, Dr. Gurm was the first ND to be invited to join the BC Diabetes Team at the Vancouver General Hospital. She is pleased to be a part of their progressive mission and multi-disciplinary approach for the treatment and management of diabetes – a disease that is closely linked the development and progression of cancer As a dedicated working mother and wife, Dr. Gurm lives by the core wisdom she shares with all her patients: “Make health a way of life.
